Waqrapukara (fullday)
This is a wonderful and very strange place, due to its location on a mountain surrounded by cliffs; it’s almost 5 hours from Cusco, however, transportation doesn’t go to the place itself. It’ll drop us off at a specific point on the route, and from there we’ll start a 50-minute hike and arrive at this natural beauty. Waqrapukara has that name because of the 2 protrusions that stand out on its summit, for the locals it resembles «horns» and in Quechua that’s called «Waqra».
It’s a beautiful archaeological center, with Inca buildings. The story goes that a Inca chief barricaded himself there, who wanted to marry the daughter of the Inca Emperor, and when rejected, he rebelled with his troops and barricaded himself in this place, suffering the siege of the imperial army sent from Cusco to capture them.
